"EDWARD McCREA, the second child of Samuel McCrea was born at or near Stillwater, New York, on June 19, 1779. When he was fourteen years of age, he left Stillwater with his parents and family for their new home in Canada. ...
"He became an extensive land-owner in the area about Merrickville, Ontario, and, as his great grandson, WALTER McRAYE, wrote in his reminiscences 'Town Hall Tonight', - 'he was a man of character and worth'. He had a large stone house built on a part of the homestead of his father which still stands today, although it is now in a bad state of repair."32
