Notes for Hezekiah J. BRAGG
Obituary, Red Wing Daily Republican, July 15, 1892. (Originally published in the Morris Tribune.)
"We are pained to be called upon to record the sudden death of our esteemed friend Hezekiah Bragg, of the town of Darnen, this county, on Sunday morning last at 3 o'clock, of heart failure. The deceased was born in the state of New York in the year 1834, being at the time of his death 58 years of age. He came to Goodhue county, this state, in 1859, and to Stevens County in 1876, where he has resided until the time of his death. For the first few years after arriving here, he was engaged as a railroad contractor, and since then his attention had been given to farming. He was some years judge of probate for Stevens county and had held the office of justice of peace for several years. He was one of the old pioneers of this county and had a host of warm friends in this part of the state. The funeral took place at residence of the deceased, Rev. Ross, an Episcopal clergyman of Appleton, officiating. An immense number of neighbors and friends attended the services, and the largest funeral procession we have ever seen in Morris followed the remains to Summit cemetery in Morris, where they were interred. The deceased leaves a wife and eleven children, five boys and six girls, to mourn his loss. Nine of the children were present at the funeral. Our acquaintance with Mr. Bragg has been for the last four years and was of the most friendly character, and with a large number of other personal friends we most sincerely regret his death."89
