Notes for Walter McCREA |
"WALTER McCREA ... chose the profession of the law for his life's work and became very prominent in law and politics. He practiced his profession in Chatham, Ontario where he was elected to serve in local offices and finally to became one of the first Dominion Senators. He was then appointed to be the Judge of the old Algoma District and moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. As Judge, he had to travel over his district, often by boats and canoes, over wilderness trails and for long distances from his home. He served with such distinction that his decisions were never reversed on appeal and he was recognized for his services by Queen Victoria."32 |
Research Notes |
BIRTH: His parentage and birthdate are confirmed with no place given.32
MARRIAGE/CHILDREN: There is some serious confusion in one source. Four children--Roderick, Anna, Lucy and Donald--are duplicated for wife no. 1 and wife no. 3.29 If the birthdates given for the children of wife no. 3 are correct, then wife no. 1 would have been married for 47 years when she gave birth to the first of them. Another source32 shows these children clearly as children of the third wife, and that is where I have placed them.
His first marriage to Eliza Ann MURRAY is confirmed with no date or place shown.32 His second marriage to a Miss LEWIS is confirmed with no date or place given.32 His third marriage to Jane CAMERON is confirmed with no date or place given.32
DEATH: His date of death is confirmed with no place given.32 |
