| The first of the McBain (sometimes spelled McBean) to settle in Cavan was William, a discharged soldier of the British 37th Regiment of Foot. William had served in Wellington's Army and later his regiment was sent to Canada to fight in the 1812-1814 war with the Americans. On his discharge he was granted the W 1/2 Lot 20, Conc. 11, Cavan on 10 August, 1818.199 |
