Notes for George Thomas McKAGUE |
George was living in Bexley Twp at his marriage to Ellen, and was described at that time as a yeoman.44 He farmed north of Bexley Corners.30 About 1889, he opened a store at Bexley Corners--the original building (store & living quarters) still stands. In 1902, his son Joseph Edwin built a large new store with living quarters and freight shed. This burned to the ground in 1962. A small store was built on the ruins in 1963. It is now under new management and out of the McKague family. See "By-Gone Days" by Morley McKague for a vivid description of the early storekeeping days.45
George was Reeve of Bexley Township in 1902.45 |
