Notes for George Percy McGREGOR |
Percy served with the Lord Strathcona Horse in WWI, 1915-1919. He left for England in October 1915, and later served in France. He spent a winter in the trenches, and was at the relief of Amiens in 1917. He returned to Canada in 1919.17
He moved from Key West SK18 to Ogema SK in 1910. He applied for land on SW 6-7-21, but later abandoned the application in favour of his father and applied for land on NE 21-6-21.17 He farmed there until 1941, then joined the Veterans Guard and served at various locations in western Canada until 1946. On discharge, he moved to Winnipeg MB and worked at the St. Regis Hotel for 20 years.17
He was a Past Master of Ogema Masonic Lodge at his death. He was a life member of Meridian Masonic Lodge and had a 60-year bar. He was also a Life Member of the Lord Strathcona Horse Association, and past chief of the Universal Craftsman of Engineers. He was a long-time member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Fort Rouge Branch No. 97. He joined Riverview United Church in 1945, and was Secretary of the Men's Fellowship Club for 14 years, served on the Board and Session for many years, and served as Chairman of Reception and Collection Committee. He was a life member of the Windsor Golf Seniors and of the Fort Rouge (65) Curling Club, where he served as Chairman of the Recreation Committee for many years. He organized the Cribbage Club. He was an active member of the Golden Rule Seniors' Club.68 |
