Notes for Bertha CLARKE |
Bertha was raised by her maternal grandparents William & Ethelwina Clarke. William was very fond of her; Ethelwina was not, and allowed Bertha's uncle Henry to tease her. Bertha did practical nursing, and was "very intelligent and a great reader". She read Scott, Dickens, etc. to her family.25 She was ill with anemia for some years.32 |
