| During the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745, he fought his way south as far as Prestonpans and Derby. On the way back, he fell ill (possibly from wounds) and was nursed to health by a family in Berwick. He later married a daughter of this family (probably after fighting at Culloden). They named their first son George to show their acceptance of the Hanoverian dynasty.32 | ||||||||
